Legend of the Seeker

I'm a fan of LOTR, not to mention of Tolkien himself. I also know about the book series entitled "Sword of Truth" by Terry Goodkind but haven't read it yet. And then now it's on TV as "Legend of the Seeker." Reminds me much of LOTR. I'm now a fan.
Two episodes was shown in the pilot last November 1 - (1) Prophecy and (2) Destiny. It basically tells you about who the seeker is and where he came from and stuff.
Craig Horner plays a charming "Seeker."
Bridget Regan as Kahlan Amnell is a beautiful sight.
And Bruce Spence as the wizard reminds me so much of Gandalf.
Watch it here.

I really hate it when they degrade my race. Next time I have to deal with a caucasian, I'll treat him like a pig.

The Many Uses of YouTube

Things are now more complicated with the pregnancy of Bristol Palin (daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, vice president nominee for the republican ticket). A young man named Kevin has this claim that he is the father of Bristol's baby. He says he is from Los Angeles but visited Alaska for the summer (and from there, the pregnancy).
Russell Brand (host of VMAs last Sunday) even commented about the said pregnancy in connection with the Jonas Brothers' purity rings; that the incident could have traumatized the father of Bristol's baby that he will be afraid of sex all the rest of his life. "Use a condom, or become republican," the comic host said on national (and worldwide) TV.
This is Kevin's video from YouTube (God bless YouTube):

What's Real and What's Not?
8/03/2008 09:52:00 AM Posted by noel
Watching reality shows can sometimes be quite depressing, especially when favoritism of the show among the contestants becomes so evident you wanna pull the contestant having the opposite advantage out of the show. It's actually like watching a television soap, except for the fact that you know it's not fiction.
Text votes aren't real. They will actually evict who they want to be eliminated, no matter how many times you voted.
The opposite happens, though, in Pinoy Idol. They really follow the text votes. Proof of which was the previous elimination of two of their favorite contestants. But I've read somewhere that the so-called "network-war" played a big role in the incident; that the competing network was responsible for the big votes the lesser talented contestants got, resulting to the elimination of the better contestants.
I'm starting to hate local television. These text votes thing is a crap. I guess watching WWF is better.

NKOTB
4/30/2008 12:07:00 AM Posted by noel

The very first concert I saw was New Kids On The Block's at the football field of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in 1992. I wasn't a big fan, but a fan nonetheless. I remember (unsuccessfully) trying very hard to reach Joey McIntyre's high notes and trying to look disheveled like Donnie Wahlberg. I also remember wondering why Jonathan Knight and Danny Wood don't have solo pieces, or if they did, why didn't it become as popular as the other three's.
I liked them. But it was something I could not tell my friends. It was the time when everyone was in the band scene. Eraserheads and the other sensible bands of the music industry aside from The Dawn seem to be from that period. Everyone was trying to learn how to play the guitar. My father bought me one, actually, to the delight of my brother. I never wanted to play the guitar until much recently that I even enrolled myself in a classical guitar course.
I also liked Eraserheads but my fondness came much much later when they weren't that "hot" anymore. I don't know but it seems that I don't like to be part of the norm. Just like how I digged NKOTB even if I knew my friends would have laughed at me if they found out.
New Kids On The Block is having a reunion tour, by the way. And that is why I am now reunited with the fandom. They're all grown up. The youngest of the group (Joey) is now 35. Not too old. I'm sure they can still do their old stuff. Would Manila be in their destination list? Hope so.

I was only able to watch the latter part of Good Times. Darn. I hope some good soul would post it on YouTube. And speaking of YouTube, what's this AT&T thing about the internet reaching full capacity by 2010? I was sad (really sad) when I read the article. They say that the current system won't be able to cope with the increasing amount of videos being uploaded. Blaming YouTube? Uhh, many people guess it's just their way of saying they should charge more. Or perhaps it's a strategy to "regulate" internet use. Too much freedom of expression?
Rain, Rain, Don't Go Away
4/01/2008 07:35:00 PM Posted by noel
I'm really, really thankful that it rained this afternoon even just for a while. It somehow lessened the heat we've been experiencing for days now. The evening news, though, reported that it will even get hotter in the middle of summer, somewhere around May. A heatwave might even occur. Heatwave was described as a long week of scorching 37 to 38 degrees centigrade... And I can't even stand 30.
I'm so unproductive when it's hot. My head aches, i can't sleep, I can't focus on anything but the heat. I miss rainy days. It's when I accomplish a lot of things.
His blog was also shown, but the pics were solarized. They didn't even mention names. Just referred to the Gucci Gang as the "socialites".
I wonder why they reported it just now. I'm sure they are aware of it from the start.
They're having Dolly Parton week on AI. I wonder, really wonder, what Ramiele would be singing. I can't think of any Dolly Parton song fit for her but I Will Always Love You. And I mean the Whitney Houston version. Oh bless Ramiele. Her studio version of Alone, btw, is verryyyy good. Go download. I only heard it in YouTube.
Proud Pinoy

Ramiele Malubay shouldn't be underestimated, really. Yea she hasn't picked the right song yet. The last performance was even a disaster. But people still keep voting for her. She's charming and people like her. Let's just hope that AI won't block the numbers of the Filipino voters in the US just like (they say) what they did with Jasmine Trias so they could cut her out. Ramiele now has the support of Danny Noriega's fans, btw.
I'm starting to like David Cook. He can really rock the house. And his somewhat "emo" version of Hello is really fantastic.
But still, I think David Archuleta will win. No matter how many times people vote for their bets, AI still has the final say. David A isn't a newbie on talent shows, btw. He won the grand prize on Star Search when he was 12. Syesha Mercado was a part of a reality show called "The One: Making of a Music Star" which was canceled early due to low ratings. Kristy Lee Cook has an existing record contract. And Carly had already released an album that only sold a couple of hundred copies.
The Swan Song
3/01/2008 01:30:00 AM Posted by noel
I just hope Ramiele Malubay makes it to at least the top 5. As Simon puts it, she's among the top 3 singers in the competition, vocal wise. But the competition is also about performance and connection with the audience. I don't know what rank she lands on with that.
Singing the swan song really makes me admire those contestants being voted out. If I were the contestant whose name was announced, well unless I was told beforehand that it was me, I don't really think I would be able to open my mouth to make a sound even close to singing. I would just be frozen right there at the center of the stage. Frozen until I could finally form the words cursing those who didn't vote for me.
So rude of me. But I don't think I can handle the hurt in that short span of time after my name was announced until before they make me sing for the last time on the contest stage. What's the purpose anyway? What if the voice breaks out due to the tension of being voted out? Isn't it putting more embarrassment on the voted-out contestant? Talking about rubbing it in.
Pinay on AI
2/28/2008 11:35:00 PM Posted by noel
Ramiele Malubay's last week performance (You Don't Have to Say You Love Me) on AI was good enough for me and my mom but didn't really impress us much. We were like waiting for the moment when she'd really belt it out and let it go (thinking that she's a Filipino). Her singing was so restrained in our opinion, but it turned out that all the three judges liked it, Simon even saying that she outsung every person so far during the show and she was the 9th (or 10th) constestant of the evening. Way to go, Pinoy!
But her performance last night wasn't good at all. All three judges agreed it was the wrong choice of song, but Simon threw her a bone by saying she's among the top 3 contestants. It looks, though, that she spends more time doing hair and make-up than choosing her song.
Atonement for Lozada
2/20/2008 11:28:00 PM Posted by noel
Is Lozada in a normal state of mind? I don't know but everytime I see him in the news, I feel like singing Baliw by Kuh Ledesma. Why? Because he cries one moment (that funny contortion of his face which resembles crying) and be in a seemingly happy mood the next. It really doesn't look normal.
Basilio... Crispin...
Why is he doing the much talked-about testimony, anyway? Washing his hands? Dahil maliit ang kick back? Haha. Bakit kasi ZTE pa. PLDT na lang sana...
I'm not liking what's on television lately. Good thing The Oscars is coming soon. Speaking of which, I really love Atonement. Not just because I used to be in a gang in Ran Online with the same name, but because I love period movies, British accent, and stories with such depth. The book by Ian McEwan is way better than the movie, though. But for those who want to enjoy the movie, don't read the book (if you still haven't) before seeing it. You'll just get disappointed. The movie adaptation is quite... superficial. But I still love it, nonetheless.
Red
2/15/2008 07:07:00 PM Posted by noel
Yesterday, I was watching this Lucy Torres/Wilma Doesnt talk show on cable when I noticed that the audience were all wearing red. I kinda made a face because I really don't like red. Not because I'm not so fond of Valentine's Day but because I just don't like red. Period. Even before I started to hate Valentine's Day.
At that moment I wondered if I owned anything that's in color red so I left the tv and looked among my things. And omg there's one.

too much tv
1/16/2008 11:37:00 PM Posted by noel
I watched the re-run of Shall We Dance last Sunday night with my mother. We learned it was a re-run when the host said "it's still 20 days before Christmas...". Anyway, two of the constestants were actors rumored to be gay and rumored to be, well, a pair. My mother looked at me with creased eyebrows when I laughed out loud to the thought of Paolo Ballesteros and Uma Khouney dancing as a pair.
With nothing much left to do on a Sunday night, I kept the television turned on. I really am a late sleeper. I'd rather watch the most nonsensical show on television than keep my eyes closed, trying to sleep before midnight. And so I chanced upon this Cherry Pie Picache movie entitled Manay Po. Her three sons in the movie were all gays. Imagine that. Paolo and Uma crossed my mind when one of Cherrie Pie's son in the movie got "married" to his boyfriend. And again, I couldn't help but laugh out loud. Good thing my mother was already sleeping.
My Sunday night was so gay.
Use Subtitles
11/12/2007 03:16:00 PM Posted by noel
I don't understand why an international beauty pageant would hire hosts with poor English communication skills (and accent) when they had to speak in English all the time.
The Miss Earth production sucked. VJ Utt was a little okay. But the former Miss Earth who co-hosted with him was a disaster. Such a disaster that I turned off the TV and continued watching Death Note instead. Death Note, at least, had subtitles in English.
Suggestion to pageant organizers who would be hiring such hosts: use subtitles!
Death Note
11/11/2007 02:14:00 PM Posted by noel
Been watching Death Note for days now. Currently downloading episode 13. Great plot. I am not an anime fan but the story line got me interested. It's a little dark but I guess that's the thing that got me. How often do we wish (in our state of anger) to have someone killed? A Death Note in the real world is the answer to that. It's also the hippest thing to kill haha.
Well, it's about a bright kid who got hold of a Death Note which was accidentally dropped by a Shinigami (Death God). The kid wanted to change the world through the Death Note, i.e., eliminating all the bad guys by writing their names in the Notebook. Bad, bright kid. But yea, I also believe that "the end justifies the means".
I just hope there's also something that's called a Love Note. Now that would really be interesting.
the underdogs
11/07/2007 02:10:00 PM Posted by noel
And so my favorite housemate (Marylaine) was the first to be evicted. I don’t actually know why I always seem to have a heart for the ones less liked. In the first PBB season, for instance, I instantly liked Racquel. And she was the one who always got nominated and eventually evicted after 3 consecutive nominations. And then this Marylaine who I instantly liked got instantly disliked by majority of the housemates. I seem to have the compassion for the less liked… Ah, yeah, I forgot to mention I also liked Sanjaya Malakar.
But not all of my favorites are underdogs. Like Guy Sebastian, for instance…
